Hawaii College students Create a Petition Towards Promenade Costume Code

With promenade season simply across the nook, many faculties are beginning to roll out dress codes for the occasion. In accordance with college students at Kauai Excessive College in Hawaii, theirs is taking it too far. As Yahoo Style stories, the present code on the faculty won’t enable ladies to have “excessive cleavage,” “the slit on the dress may not expose the upper thighs,” and “backless dresses may not fall below mid-back.”

In response, the scholars have began a change.org petition to get it altered. It states, “We believe as students of Kauai High, these absurd regulations on what we get to wear need to change into a more realistic dress code.”

The scholars go on to debate how they really feel restrictive costume codes just like the one they’re being requested to stick to are inherently sexist. They write, “These many restrictions on our prom dress are discriminating and insulting to girls due to the number of restrictions put on this and making it even a discouraging time when it should be exciting to find a prom dress when it is so little we can wear.” The petition also explains how they feel the code unfairly sexualizes them. It states, “We are told to be confident in our body, but then you create these restrictions that discriminate us and hypersexualize us to the point that we cannot feel comfortable without the assumption that we are being ‘provocative.’”

Together with virtually 400 signatures (they’re on the lookout for 500), supporters have written statements like “Students should have a right to wear whatever dress they please they should be able to feel confident and express themselves” and “Teach the behavior you want to see instead of oppressing an entire gender.”

Kauai Excessive College isn’t the primary one to impose most of these costume codes on college students, they usually seemingly will not be the final. There isn’t a phrase but whether or not this specific petition will drive the college to really change the language of their current costume code, however college students taking issues into their very own arms to regulate the narrative is a step in the appropriate path.
