Season after season, the Maison Margiela runway kicks off Paris Vogue Week with a spectacular magnificence message. And in the present day, inside town’s Grand Palais, the lips had it. Taking part in off the gathering’s color-blocked trenches and puffer coats, make-up visionary Pat McGrath saturated a handful of fashions’ mouths in matte, richly pigmented jewel tone shades of cobalt blue, atomic orange, deep purple, and emerald inexperienced. Typically peeking out from beneath protecting hoods, the vivid, stamped-on hues packed much more of a punch.
However it didn’t finish there—McGrath took mannequin Alyssa Traoré’s pout to a different dimension. Serving as a mesmerizing extension of the mannequin’s iridescent skirtsuit, her ultraviolet lips had been slicked with glitter and high-shine gloss, beaming on the runway like a holograph (and echoing the glint discovered within the fire-engine crimson helmet of sequined lengths and chromatic skullcap devised by hairstylist Eugene Souleiman for fashions Teddy Quinlivan and Duckie Thot, respectively).
Very like designer John Galliano’s tailor-made grey wool coat over a floor-sweeping yellow anorak, it was a runway showstopper that appeared destined to make its method into Instagram feeds and avenue model images alike—presumably, earlier than the day is over.
